Toy Story 5: Bullseye Finally Speaks in New Sequel

Toy Story 5 is poised to be one of the biggest releases of the year, with the animated sequel continuing to fill out its eclectic cast of toy characters. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are reprising their roles as Woody and Buzz, respectively, with a star-studded cast that includes Bonnie Hunt, Conan O’Brien, Keanu Reeves, Greta Lee, and Joan Cusack. However, it seems that the next installment of the Toy Story series isn’t done offering surprises with inspired casting choices, as the latest news features Woody’s trusty horse Bullseye speaking for the first time.

Toy Story 5 will see Bullseye as Sheriff Jessie’s loyal horse after the events of Toy Story 4. The steed has always had an exceptional personality, expressed through his physicality. The fifth film in the franchise will finally see Bullseye speak, with LADbible confirming that Alan Cumming will lend his voice to the role. Cumming is known for hosting The Traitors, and the actor has made headlines over the last year for his return to his X-Men role in Avengers: Doomsday. With the addition of Toy Story 5, Cumming could have one of the biggest years at the box office. He called his Bullseye casting an “incredible honor” that has him feeling “so happy and proud and in disbelief.”

Cumming spoke about his process for finding Bullseye’s voice, noting “we went around the houses a bit before we settled on the one we’re using.” While he didn’t divulge much about why Bullseye is suddenly able to speak, the actor notes that the circumstances provided an opportunity rife with possibilities.

“But the circumstances of him talking — once you see the film — will make you understand why we had quite a broad church to choose from.”

The X-Men 2 star doesn’t want to overstate his presence in Toy Story 5, noting that it is just a cameo, he added:

“Well, I would say don’t expect too much, as it is a cameo, but it is quite exciting as this character has never had a voice before.”

Bullseye’s story will reportedly see him at the side of eight-year-old Bonnie. Jessie and Bullseye eventually get separated from the others, with Cumming noting that the loyal steed will “find out what it means to really be there for your kid.” Cumming hails Woody as his favorite character, and while he “adored” the Toy Story franchise, he “never expected” he would get a chance to star in one. He’s also aware of the franchise’s clout among young audiences, adding, “It’s going to give me great kudos with my friends’ kids to be in this one.”

Toy Story 5 is scheduled to hit theaters on June 19, with the animated sequel bringing Woody back into the fold after he went his own way at the end of Toy Story 4. The story keeps pace with modern trends, as the new villain is a tablet named LilyPad, the latest obsession looking to usurp the favorite toy title. With Toy Story 3 and 4 both earning over $1 billion at the worldwide box office, the fifth installment is likely to achieve similar success. Given that Bullseye will speak for the first time, the franchise doesn’t look to be short on surprises, which will delight audiences later this summer when Toy Story 5 finally premieres.
